Nas……….Quenya!

SOooo, this is not a stupid April Fool’s prank. I hate those kind of things!

That might be the first thing you’re gonna think  if you’re not seeing the text below correctly. If all you get is a  weird code like: “5~CÁ 5#£ 1~V7E `C6 ” then you just need to get the font called Tengwar Annatar and you’ll do just fine! You’ll be able to enjoy this historical post! For the very first time, to change all the future for everyone who loves Quenya.

I present to you…….QUENYA, as it should be written! Just READ:

5~CÁ 5#£ 1~V7E `C6 5#£ `C5nE- iG5# `B t%5$Ì zF1;E6 aF2$`Cj iT5^t$ hÍE 1~VaT5$ 5$6 1T`V,F t#.DhÍE zF5#Ì5 5~C 1~VaT5#\ hÍY yE5%t# 1Rx#w#7EÎ 1Rx#6ˆ
5#£ zF4#j$`C- 5#£ `B 5#1 `Bj$´ 1YjaT`V2%j%° ›`C6 zF5#Ì2%j%°› t$65$6= `B 1T`V 1RaT`V5 1Rx#6 5#1|F,F- j~C `Vt#:= j~C eG4#j$= `V6 zF5#Ì `CrlYaE 1T`V7EÎ,F=====1Fx#7F,FÁ

What is relevant about his text? This is NOT an image! This is TEXT! That’s Quenya as it should be written, with its own alphabet. With this new Quenya101 feature, we give Quenya the status it deserves! Alongside other languages with different alphabets (Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, Japanese and so on), now Quenya can be written using Tengwar. WRITTEN! Not just images pasted here and there!

W-r-i-t-t-e-n!

Or should I say….

                                                                                      1~VaG5#À

huh?

:) :) :)

Well, for polite reasons, let’s share here the translation of the text as well as its Quenya equivalent written in that very ugly ugly alphabet we call Roman! Here it is:

Ná! Nas téra ar nas anwa. Sina i minyë quettar cendëal sinomë ya técinë ner tiessë mauya Quenyan ná técina: yo vanima tengwandarya Tengwar.

Nas quentalëa. Nas i nat ilyë Tolciendilli (ar Quenyandilli) merner, i tië tecien Tengwar natsessë. Lá emma, lá fintalë, er Quenya ampoica tieryassë…Tengwaressë!

And now English (at last!):

Yes! It’s right and it’s real. This is the first words you are reading here that were written the way Quenya should be written: with its beautiful alphabet Tengwar.

It’s historical. It’s the thing all lovers of Tolkien (and lovers of Quenya) desired, the way to write Tengwar in the Internet. No picture, no trick, only Quenya in its purest way…in Tengwar!

Almárë, our new Quenya star!

Aiya! Essenya Almárë ná ar nanyë vinya quén i tecë sís.

Nas ní.

Hello, my name is Almáre and I’m a new writer here. :D I’ve not done any posts thus far, but I’ve got a couple in the works, including a translation of Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion and one of Nightwish’s Ghost Love Score.

I began studying Quenya only last December, though I had been meaning to for a number of years – I think I downloaded the Ardalambion course all the way back in 2006 but never got around to it! Oh that I had! Still, over the last three months the study of Quenya has all but taken over my life. I love it! It started because I bought I print of Jenny Dolfen’s amazing painting of The Oath of Fëanor and I decided it would be cool to frame it with a Quenya translation of the oath (as found in Morgoth’s Ring) written in tengwar (I still haven’t done this, but I have the oath on my wall next to the painting!).

Nas ní. About me… let’s see.. I’m 23 years old and live in Tasmania, Australia… (that’s the little vaguely triangular island in the south east). I have a bachelors degree in physics and I am currently doing my honours in optical astronomy (nauvan meneldil!). I’m also an avid horse rider (nanyë roquen), study medieval European martial arts (polinyë turë macil) and do archery (ar quinga). I’m only fluent in English but I know a bit of French and Japanese.

I cannot remember when I first read The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings, but I first read The Silmarillion when I was twelve and that’s when my love affair with Arda began. Fëanáro was my favourite character then and that hasn’t changed (I used to use the screen name daughteroffeanor, judge that how you will). Hence, in-world I’d would be Noldo and would have been sworn to the Fëanorians, and post-Losgar probably Maitimo.

Nas ní.

I can be found on twitter @almarexx or on tumblr almare.tumblr.com, or via email almare@quenya101.com and if you’ve any questions (about Quenya or physics!), requests or want someone to proof read something you’ve written please don’t hesitate to ask!

Namárië meldonyar!

We’re back! The 3rd Year begins!

Entullelmë….one month later, here we are! On a Super Bowl day, we’re back! After a rough January (personally) I’m glad to announce Quenya101 is back!

Hooray, we're back!

Hooray, we’re back!

Sweet elven mead for our celebration!

Not only we’re back, but today is the anniversary of Quenya101. 2 years ago, I started this “thing” which I had no idea what would become! A day to celebrate, a day to remember and certainly a day to thank all the Tolkien fans who contributed for what Quenya101 is right now. (The beer is on me today, folks! Drink up) :D

This year promises a lotta action around here! Tons of (good!!!) tattoos to display, future Quenya Masters to step up already being scouted, the conclusion of Ainulindalë Quenyanna (at last!), White Tree Awards III, The Hobbit 2nd movie to come….and an infinite array of new lessons and classes to share with all eager fans out there!

Goddamn, how I’m thrilled to be back! It’s like I’ve been mute for a whole month! As you may have noticed, Fast Line is also back since 02/01/13 and I’m catching up with all requests made through it during January. They are all considered (for the 101-hour delivery time) as being requested in 02/01/13 12:00AM ET. So, just relax and you’ll get what you asked for right in time, because you know a half-elven Quenya teacher is never late, nor is he early, he answers precisely when he means to.

Quenya101 Voilà

Erutulco, núrolya!

Aiya, meldonyar!

I’m Erutulco Eruntano, and I have been honored with a position in Quenya101 Language Institute. Though I made some contributions before, now I’ve been given the chance of helping more actively in task of spreading the awesomeness of Quenya to every corner of Arda.

My encounter with Professor Tolkien was at the age of 12, through his most popular masterpiece “The Lord of the Rings”. Since then I started to delve deeper and deeper in his whole mythos. Now I count 22 years of life, and this passion has done nothing but increase. Needless to say, Quenya played a primary role in this process: in 2009 (age 19), I stumbled into Helge Fauskanger’s Quenya Course. I instantly began to study it, though very slowly due to life’s other obligations.

A little before finishing the Course, I found Erunno on Twitter, and he helped immensely in the task. And when, afterwards, he opened this site, I became an avid reader. Since then I’m up to perfecting knowledge, translating, and helping others to learn Quenya.

Finally, for the curious ones, here’s some information about me:

  • Age: 22 years old
  • Studies: currently studying Computer Engineering
  • Country: Uruguay
  • Languages: Spanish (mother-tongue), English, Latin (though a bit rusty lately), and Quenya.

My most notorious previous contributions to Quenya101 are these two: Tenwar Quenya Quick Guide & A Varda! Elentári!. Also I’ve been awarded with the title “I roquen taraso!” and a Quenya101 t-shirt for solving a challenge here.

Great, now you know me! But how do you contact me? I’m in a bunch of social networks, and on email. These are the most effective means of reaching me:

Twitter: @joaquingatica | Google+: link | Email: erutulco@quenya101.com

Do not hesitate to get in touch at any moment. I check this networks very frequently, and I’ll be pleased to help anyone anytime. We are here with that purpose. As the title states: Erutulco, your servant!

Enter Ondo Carniliono

Aiya ilyen!

My name’s Ondo Carniliono and I’m a new writer here in Quenya101. You may know me for some posts by our friend Erunno, like “All that is gold does not glitter”, “Bard’s song” and, I would say this is the most famous of them all, “Soft kitty”.

I’ve started studying Quenya in October 2010, and on my first comments of it on Twitter I found the @Quenya101 guy. With his help, before the end of the year I was already translating parts of some lyrics into Quenya and I still remember my first translation was “When life leaves us blind, love keeps us kind” by Linkin Park (Song: The Messenger).

But… who am I anyway? I’m a 17 year old Gondorian, studying to be a physicist, I speak Portuguese, English, Spanish and, of course, Quenya and I live in Brazil. You can find me on twitter (@_Ondo) or you can email me (ondo@quenya101.com), so, if you need any help, got any comments or anything, hit me up there!

See you later guys! Namárië!
