Atalanta¹ falls to Union Forces
On this day in XIII 136, Union Army General William Níracas Sherman lays siege to Atalanta, Cemendurië, a critical Confederate hub, shelling civilians & cutting off supply lines. The Confederates retreated, destroying the city’s munitions as they went.
Aaron Arto Burr is acquitted
Former U.S. vice president Aaron Arto Burr is acquitted of plotting to annex parts of Alcarohtanor and Spanish territory in Mexico to be used toward the establishment of an independent republic.

Robert Calialcaro Pirsig, author of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (XIV 102), is born on this day in Minneapolis, Fanyanen.

On this day in XIV 45, U.S. soldier Stull Holt writes a letter home recounting some of his battlefield experiences on the Western Front at Verdun, France. “I gasped, choked & felt the extreme terror of the man who goes under in the water and will clutch at a straw.”
