A Game of Thrones “Elvish” Houses

In a decade when books are designed to be all colorful, divided in who-knows-how-many trilogies, series, sagas, ready to be a tween hit, and surely aiming for a spot in Hollywood; there came along a bearded man, fat and chubby with his Arthurian epic, a new legendary tale for the warming of our Tolkienian hearts. I, as always, did not trust the frenzy around Game of Thrones brought and popularized by HBO series; however my mind was swiftly turned and changed by what I read. Ondo introduced me this tale and here I am, months later, almost finishing book 2 , Blu-Ray bought…yeah…that guy named George R.R. Martin really writes literature, not 21st century disposable teen stories! I’m very thankful he doesn’t live in this decade!

But this is a post for the eyes! Presenting now, a little something for the fans, mixing and entwining things as we usually do here and here AND here too, A Game of Thrones Houses in Quenya:

I must thank liquidsouldesign Flickr for the inspiration and the designs behind the images shown here. The credit for the art is all his (or hers). I just translated and adapted to Quenya as you can see here.

I Lindë Helcë ar Nárëo (Asta II)

Before going to the real post, I got something to share with you guys. I finished A Dance with Dragons and I am shocked. I cried. I wanted to throw the book over my window. But I could finish the last chapters and…. wow.

So, continuing the A Song of Ice and Fire sequence (check the first part here), I bring you now……… Arya Stark!

She is a badass little girl that is pretty much one of the best characters in the story. I present you some quotes of this little girl in A Game of Thrones!

Swift as a deer. Quiet as a shadow. Fear cuts deeper than swords.
Quick as a snake. Calm as still water. Fear cuts deeper than swords.
Strong as a bear. Fierce as a wolverine. Fear cuts deeper than swords.
The man who fears losing has already lost. Fear cuts deeper than swords.
Fear cuts deeper than swords. Fear cuts deeper than swords.
(Arya Stark)

Linta ve narmo. Quildëa ve lómin. Caurë rista tumna lá macili.
Tyelca ve ango. Ringa ve quildëa nén. Caurë rista tumna lá macili.
Tulca ve morco. Rúsëa ve nauro. Caurë rista tumna lá macili.
I nér i rucë úhariello, úmië ullumë haritas. Caurë rista tumna lá macili.
Caurë rista tumna lá macili. Caurë rista tumna lá macili.

Syrio Forel: Do you pray to the Gods?
Arya Stark: The Old and the New.
Syrio: There is only one God, and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to death: “Not today.”

SF: Ma hyamelyë i Ainuin?
AS: I Yárë ar i Vinyë.
SF: Sina er Ainu, ar esselya ná Qualmë. Ar sina er nat quetalvë qualmen: “Síra lá”.

And also, talking about badass little people…. Tyrion! I hated him. I wanted him to die. And, yet, now he’s one of my favorite characters…..

So, to redeem myself, I present you one of his most famous quotes!

Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you
(Tyrion Lannister)

Ullumë hehta yá nalyë. I ambar úva. Ásë cólë ve turma ar úvas ullumë malital.

There is only one part yet (or I think so!), stay tuned!

I Lindë Helcë ar Nárëo (Asta I)

Book series come and go. Some are worth reading, some are just a piece of crap worthless of your precious reading time. Others are eternal, like everything our dear Tolkien has ever written. The Hobbit (no, I didn’t read it yet, shame on me) is almost 75 years old and the movie is coming soon. I don’t see anyone remembering Twilight in 2050 or something.

Lately, a new series is showing some to-be eternal potential. A Song of Ice and Fire. It’s being written by the american George R. R. Martin and it’s having a major impact in the nerd and geek world. The first book, A Game of Thrones, was adapted into a 10 episodes TV series by HBO and the second series, based on the second book, A Clash of Kings, is to be released on this April. Right now, I am reading the fifth book, A Dance with Dragons, and, well, it’s level of awesomeness is too high. So…. I present you The Night’s Watch Oath Quenyanna!

Lómë comyëa imma ar sí tirissenya haryëa yestarya. Úvas tyelë tenna qualmenya. Úvanyë mapa veri, úvanyë harya nóri, úvanyë atar hinin.Úvanyë colë rië ar úvanyë quanta alcaro. Nauvanyë cuina ar vanwa nómenyessë. Nanyë i macil i móressë. Nanyë i tirindo i rambassë. Nanyë i ruinë ustëa ringwenna, i cálë cóla i ára, i romba coivëa i humindo, i turma címa i arda ataniva. Antëanyë vandanya ya coivienya ar alcarenya i Tirissen Lómeva, silómë ar ilyë túlalë lómissen.

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night’s Watch, for this night and all nights to come.

I hope you like it! And don’t worry, there’s more to come, after all, Hrívë túla! (Winter is coming!)
